Hearing privilege means you can call businesses and agencies without worrying that they will hang up on you.
They don’t hang up on me because I have ‘good speech.’
But I only hear about half because I can’t lipread or observe body language.
I hate the phone anymore.
I misunderstood more than I realized.
I was in denial because I wanted to be ‘good’, which meant able-to-hear.
I would fake it.
The consequences are dire however.
I suffered the wrath of assumers who deemed their message conveyed.
Presumption is a hearing privilege.
Cops shoot you in the back if you don’t listen.
Fuck you pig.

I have practically the same issues. I’m looking for a new job, after being laid off from a company in which I worked there for 8 years. Anyways, in nearly all of my interviews, I am asked this question: “So, tell me how are you able to pick up a telephone and answer it?”
Sigh.
I know this is not their fault in that they are trying not to be ignorant and all that. I explain that if the job description does not indicate a majority of answering phones (like customer service, etc.,) then we can discuss installing VP’s and / or possibly switching around some job responsibilities. The hearing people chuckle nervously and do a lot of hemming and hawing. I knew then these would not be the companies I’d like to work for… and like you said, thanks a lot to presumption. These companies do not know what they are missing out on…
I agree on that.
